@EDintrovert Hi Coeller! Thank you so much, I think this is one of those things that doesn’t come up very often, but my goodness I would not want to be unprepared if I didn’t have OBGYN on call and if a patient was hemorrhaging. So great to see you, your talk from last year was so inspiring!
I’m so sorry to hear about your family’s losses, miscarriage is so hard (understatement, can be outright devastating). I agree the majority of patients don’t need a procedure (but some do). I think our patients will benefit from having EM physicians better versed in expectant...
@pgyfun @ShelbyWoodEMTP @meganranney@KQ_MD@feminemtweets@csrussi@NoobieMatt Unfortunately, we have had numerous miscarriages as a family. We did not require any aspiration in any case. Very few persons do in my experience. I will say that the toll of the experience is huge emotionally and the questions about family planning are many.

and medical management as well. In the majority of hospitals w MUA as an option in the ED, the OBGYN MDs perform them. Definitely not the right option for all patients, but great to have available if needed to prevent an unneeded admission or unnecessary general anesthesia in OR
@NoobieMatt@VenkBellamkonda@pgyfun @ShelbyWoodEMTP @meganranney@feminemtweets@csrussi I think every patient and partner/family will have a different need or desire for a different treatment type. Many women opt for expectant or medical management and not a procedure. For some an MUA in the ED is not the best option.
#GoldfarbChallenge I had just put in a chest tube for a hemopneumothorax from a gunshot wound, when I realized I had forgotten the mechanism of action of the diphtheria toxoid! #ThisIsOurLane
#FIX19
Thank you #FIX19 and #Feminem for creating such an incredible platform for the sharing of ideas, stories and inspirations for how to make emergency medicine and the world better! So grateful. #bestemconferenceever
@redstockinglady Thanks so much for the question! For the overwhelming majority of patients who receive MUA in the ED, they’re candidates for the procedure bc they’re bleeding already, and most of them have a cervix that is already open, so no dilation is necessary.
