The community of Double Poplars is located on Old Auburn Road near the Fairgrounds. This was a free African-American community prior to the Civil War. The Church was built in the years following.

Pictured here are members of the Low family. Andrew Low began construction of an Italianate style manor house in 1860. This structure would undergo several renovations and expansions. Today, we know it as The Inn at Vint Hill.

55 years ago today, 144 people lost their lives in the tragic Aberfan Mining disaster. Slag heaps piled above the mining town gave way and engulfed rows of houses and the Pantglas Junior School.

The Goose Creek Bridge was built in 1802 and remained in use until 1957. It is the oldest remaining turnpike bridge in Virginia. It was the center of the June 21, 1863 Battle of Upperville.

Under the waters of Germantown Lake at Crockett Park lies the site of the first settlement in what would later become Fauquier County (1759). Prone to flooding, Licking Run will be dammed in 1985.
