Families of 14 abducted villagers from #TaphouKuki Village in #Manipur’s #Kangpokpi district have intensified their sit-in protest, demanding immediate intervention from both the Centre and the State government to secure the safe and unconditional release of their relatives who have remained hostage since May 13.
The Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO) Sadar Hills has strongly rejected allegations made by the All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) regarding the alleged abduction of six Naga individuals, calling the claims “baseless” and “misleading.”
In a statement issued on May 27, KSO Sadar Hills accused ANSAM of making what it described as “premature” accusations against Lalboi Vaiphei, Chief of Leilon Vaiphei Village, without evidence. The organisation stated that the matter should be handled through a lawful investigation and not through public allegations that could further escalate tensions between communities.
The student body also referred to an earlier incident in Ukhrul district in March 2026, alleging that five Kuki civilians were previously held captive by militants linked to the NSCN-IM Eastern Flank. According to KSO Sadar Hills, Kuki villagers later detained 21 Naga individuals, who were subsequently released following a settlement aimed at restoring peace.
The organisation further alleged that two Kuki hostages were killed during the incident, while three others managed to escape.
KSO Sadar Hills also claimed that the recent ambush involving three Kuki church leaders was linked to Naga militant groups, including the NSCN-IM and the Kamson faction. The allegations have not been independently verified.
The organisation additionally condemned the alleged captivity of 14 Kuki civilians, including three students, and called for legal action against those responsible.
The statement comes amid continuing tensions and unrest in parts of Manipur, where different organisations and community groups have been issuing appeals for peace and dialogue.

We demand immediate&safe release of 14 Kuki men illegally held captive by SDSA/NPO. Investigate the said organisations&their role in exacerbating Law&Order situation in the already fragmented state of Manipur. Such criminal acts are against peace process of any kind. @PIB_India
Families of 14 villagers allegedly abducted from Taphou Kuki Village in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district have intensified their sit-in protest, demanding immediate intervention from both the State and Central governments for the safe release of their relatives.
The protest, which has been continuing for several days, has drawn participation from hundreds of villagers, including women, elderly residents and children. Protesters stated that the agitation would continue until all the hostages are released safely.
Family members expressed concern over what they described as a lack of adequate response from the authorities regarding the incident, which took place on May 13 near the Senapati-Kangpokpi border along National Highway-2.
According to villagers, 25 residents of Taphou Kuki Village were allegedly abducted while returning home from work. They claimed the incident occurred in the presence of security personnel deployed in the area. While some individuals were later released, 14 people, including three students, are still reportedly being held captive.
Families stated that the prolonged absence of the missing villagers has caused severe emotional and financial hardship, as several of those still missing are the sole earning members of their households.
Speaking during the protest, family members appealed to the authorities to take urgent steps to ensure the safe and unconditional release of the remaining hostages. They also urged those responsible for the abduction to release the civilians on humanitarian grounds.
The protesters said they would continue their sit-in agitation until all the missing villagers return home safely.
