Feliz lunes! We're continuing our pet features this week, featuring Dr. Hale's dog Laika, a stylish little chihuahua mini-pinscher mix who loves sweaters and bow ties!
Dr. Faber's dog, Orfeo, is a Xoloitzcuintli (Xolo, or Mexican Hairless Terrier), named after the dog in Umanmuno’s “Niebla”. In Aztec culture, Xoloitzcuintles guided souls on their journey to the underworld. Frida Kahlo had several Xolos, and they even appear in her paintings!
More pets! Dr. Bender has two dogs, a pitbull named Lucy (who sometimes visits the office!), and Ava, who was supposed to be a "chihuahua mix" adopted from the shelter. Unlike Cheesestick, they are not bilingual; and they don't have matching accessories like Piñata & Coquí 🤣
Today marks Mexico and Central American Independence Day celebrations (since 1821)! Stop by Café Olé (2-3pm) to try some Mexican pastries and chat with this week's hosts, Dr. Courbou & Francisco! 2nd Floor EH Lounge!
Dr. Kanost's cat, Cheesestick or Mr. Cheese, helps supervise her translation projects and zoom meeting - he even answers to the name Güero, so maybe he's learning Spanish, too!?
Feliz lunes!! This week we're sharing a few favorite pictures with our "mascotas" (pets), starting with Dr. Nazario and her two dogs, Piñata and Coquí, showing off their matching personalized hats!
The KLC is now open for work study and tutoring, starting at 9am Monday through Friday! Hours for Spanish tutoring and Open Advising are in the attached flyers and posted around Eisenhower Hall. Stop by this week to check out the space, meet the tutors, and grab some candy!
