@kuhotZmicro Requiring many letters also selects against younger students who have not had the opportunity to make connections with multiple professors. Our program required one.
We're checking in with our former REU students. What are you up to these days? Hope everyone is well. I know that one of our 2013 cohort finished their PhD this year (Congrats @stephen_rong ) and a bunch more will finish in the next year or so.
Congratulations to Kent Keene (2014 cohort)! His paper from his REU work came out:
Keene, K., et. al. Conservatism of leafhopper communities in remnant and reconstructed prairie sites in a working agroecological landscape. J Insect Conserv (2020) doi:10.1007/s10841-019-00198-y
Compiled all the data on our previous programs. Including the students funded in other ways: 64 students, 50 have finished their bachelors degrees (13 still in school). Of those we are still in contact with (90% of total), 70% of those with a bachelors have gone to grad school.
