Hi all- my mom just finished open heart surgery. Weeks ago she had a stroke, which I’m very grateful she’s recovered extremely well from. The stroke led to a battery of tests which showed that she needed to have a valve in her heart replaced due to a growth on the valve.

While performing this today, the surgeon also discovered that she needed a bypass for one of the arteries leading to the heart, which was also performed.

This has been extremely crazy, and jolting to go through, but right now my family is feeling astoundingly fortunate that in all of these circumstances the past few weeks everything seemed to happen in a way that allowed these things to be caught and dealt with, which otherwise might not have been caught, and in all likelihood, could have been fatal.

The surgeon tells us that everything went very well today. She just finished recently, so will not be able to talk to us for several hours. I’ll give you all an update after I talk to her.

Thank you all for your prayers and your concern. Although this will be a challenging road to recovery for her, in all we feel very, very fortunate. All of this could’ve turned out very differently.

I deeply appreciate the love and support you all have expressed.
