To all LGBTQIA+ youth in Ohio – especially transgender and gender expansive youth: You belong. We will continue to fight against this policy and all other legislation targeting LGBTQIA+ Ohioans.
Today, the Ohio Senate passed Senate Bill 104, the transgender bathroom ban legislation. The bill now moves to the desk of Governor Mike DeWine. We strongly urge people to contact his office to urge him to veto this discriminatory legislation: 614-466-3555.
By amending this policy into an unrelated bill that had already gone through the committee process in the House and Senate and had passed out of the Senate in its initial form, the bathroom ban was able to bypass the Senate committee process entirely.
"Parents understand this. Kids understand this. It's the politicians that don't understand this," Sen. Kent Smith said.
We are grateful for the Senators who are speaking out against this bill on the floor, especially since this policy was never heard in a Senate committee.
The Ohio Senate is speaking now on the floor about S.B. 104, a bill regarding the College Credit Plus program that was amended in the House over the summer to include the trans bathroom ban legislation.

To clarify: The bathroom ban legislation was first introduced as House Bill 183, which was making its way through the traditional committee process.
By amending it into SB 104, the legislature is preventing Ohioans from being able to speak out against this harmful bill.
⚠️The Ohio Senate is now convening -- they may vote on SB 104, an anti-trans bathroom bill requiring individuals in primary and secondary schools (as well as institutions of higher education) to use restrooms and other facilities that align with their sex assigned at birth. 🧵
"We must speak up, speak out and do the things that actually create the world that we know is possible and that our young people also know is possible. They’re counting on us."
We spoke w/ @KYCOhio about what OHIOANS need to do to support LGBTQ+ youth.

The stakes are high for this pending decision from the Tenth District Court of Appeals in our challenge to Ohio's ban on gender affirming care for trans youth.
In either outcome, the ruling could be appealed to the Ohio Supreme Court. Stay tuned.
