Students and activists protested across Indonesia over rising living costs, economic concerns and forest fires linked to land clearing for palm oil plantations.
I originally have other accounts to talk about real life matters. But since apparently some thought that Indonesian people are "fine" with our govt, I'm gonna bring it up here as well so that it can reach global attention. PLEASE take your time to read.
If you think we Indonesians are "ok" with the haze:
1) we are NOT. People in the forest and land fire areas DIED not only because of the 2-months haze, but also from the houses burned down along.
2) we put this banner on the most central statue in Jakarta earlier in the morning TODAY and after only several hours the police and firefighters immediately came to tear it down.
The issues is so far beyond the haze for us. Fyi, today also marks the 2nd year of the current regime of Prabowo-Gibran who had abandoned, even arrested and KILLED us throughout its run. We (me personally and others with common sense here) have NEVER VOTED for these evils.
We had been protesting both online and offline (I have said once here that I led the street protests sometimes) on so many things since they took the office. They fed the kids with poisonous meals at schools, rejected international offer to help with the fires and other disasters, heck they even refused to acknowledge last year's massive landslide and flood in Sumatra and current forest-land fire as national disasters. Indonesian people are going through multiple crisis under this regime.
I repeat, we have PROTESTED, from social media rants to legal ways through class action and lawsuits against the govt to the streets takeover. And guess what! The govt took down our social media posts (yes, the Ministry of Comms and Digital Affairs itself; I had my socmed posts being took down multiple times under their report too), attacked the protesters even the paramedics and press, bought the newsrooms for their own campaign, sentenced us guilty for demonstrating. We are being silenced and it's only getting worse with the revised / newly legalized bills and the force of militarism in civil space.
So maybe rather than assuming that we are ok with this situation, please HELP US to spread the word. This government is not only incompetent, but also ignorant and ran by criminals. Literally; the president was being kicked out from the military back in 1998 as he was allegedly involved in the 1997-1998 abduction of activists. And they don't care about their bad reputation at all. I want to let the world knows that we want this regime to end as soon as possible. Too many people have suffered already.
Greenpeace Indonesia put up a banner at Bundaran HI today to speak out about what’s happening in Indonesia, but authorities are reportedly asking them to take it down due to massive protest today. Please help spread the word and bring more attention to what’s happening here 🙏🏼
I’m sorry this isn’t my usual kind of drawing, but I feel like I need to spread awareness abt whats goin on in Indonesia.
So many ppl& animals are affected by this. Indonesia is also being covered in carbon monoxide
And all of this for palm oil.

if you want to support Brazil in our current political landscape by talking about the Amazon rainforest, please keep this in mind. the amazon isn’t an unpopulated area, we live in it and we cant get left out of conversations about it, especially indigenous ppl!
