We aim not only to remove litter from the beaches and waterways each month, but also to educate people about pollution and the importance of the ocean.

WCRL has declined dramatically over the last 50 yrs due to overfishing to only ~1.9% of its original, pre-fished stock size. At such low levels, the risk of WCRL becoming commercially extinct is extremely high with dire socio-economic and ecological knock-on effects.

10,000 people congregated today because of our love of one thing - our wildlife. It was inspiring, it was moving and it was momentous. Thank you so much everyone.

We need to convey a sense of urgency because the world is changing. The next ten years is likely to be the most important time in the next 10,000 years. We have options that we are going to lose within ten years unless we take action now.

Did you know South Africa currently has a network of 23 coastal Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) covering only 0.4 % of the oceans around South Africa? Help us get it to 5% by the end of 2018 and 10% by 2020. https://t.co/JXFy7pAvEQ @WILDOCEANSSA@saambr@oceanunite@WWFSASSI
