When Napoleon marched into Russia in 1812, his army depended on approximately 187,000 horses for cavalry, transport, artillery, and supplies. By the time the disastrous campaign ended, only about 1,600 horses survived.
The Russian winter is often blamed, but starvation, exhaustion, disease, lack of forage, and the relentless retreat proved just as deadly. The loss of so many horses crippled Napoleon’s military power and became one of the greatest logistical disasters in history.

@EmilySm43 We went to each other's houses and talked face-to-face. Pretty weird. Also, we passed notes in school. You had to be careful with those because if a teacher caught you, they might read the note aloud, and then you'd die of embarrassment for like an entire day and a half.
