I have witnessed this club go from doubters to believers, and from believers to champions. It took hard work and I always did everything I could to help the club get there. Nothing makes me prouder than that.

Us crumbling to yet another defeat this season was very painful and not what our fans deserve. I want to see Liverpool go back to being the heavy metal attacking team that opponents fear and back to being a team that wins trophies. That is the football I know how to play and that is the identity that needs to be recovered and kept for good. It cannot be negotiable and everyone that joins this club should adapt to it.

It is worth mentioning that both Xabi Alonso and Iñaki Ibáñez are deeply disappointed by Liverpool’s conduct, as the club effectively kept them warm for months while, contrary to several club-friendly media leaks, direct contact had in fact been ongoing for a long time.

I have consistently reported that the message from Liverpool throughout the process was repeatedly the same, the final green light from ownership level was still missing, meaning it was not yet possible to progress towards a written contract. This was the exact line communicated to Alonso’s agency for months and the reason why the operation was never formally advanced despite the extensive groundwork already done behind the scenes. In recent days, however, IDUB Global and Xabi Alonso himself received the clear briefing that Liverpool do not intend to progress any further, which has caused significant frustration on the agency side after months of being led to believe that the only remaining obstacle was ownership approval.

I already reported in January that if Liverpool did not intend to materialise the operation, Xabi Alonso was always more than willing to take over a direct Premier League rival of Liverpool. That scenario is now becoming increasingly concrete, with Alonso’s side fully focused on trying to take over at Chelsea, while Manchester City continue to lurk in the background. The feeling around the agency side is clear, Liverpool had months to turn the operation into a formal agreement, but instead allowed the process to drift behind the repeated explanation that the final ownership green light was still missing. Now, with Liverpool stepping away from progressing any further, Xabi Alonso’s camp is actively moving towards alternative Premier League opportunities.
