Quelqu’un peut m’expliquer pourquoi les cadets qui font la circulation ont le droit de garer leur véhicule personnel sur le trottoir? En plein centre-ville?
Great workshops today at #HealthyBuildings23 conference in Aachen: Personalized environmental control systems, indoor air quality, thermal, visual and acoustic comfort … everything that is needed for healthy and energy efficient buildings!
Notre piètre performance en recherche est honteuse mais il ne faut pas s’en surprendre.

You've likely heard about gas stoves and indoor air pollution. But we don't have a gas stove. Yet, we had an indoor air pollution mystery that took me and my husband (both PhDs) 11 nights of bad air to figure out.
What the heck was going on? A 🧵 1/18
@Lollardfish Heat pumps work by exploiting the difference in thermal energy (heat) between the outside air and the refrigerant. There is still heat in the air that can be exploited at <0C so long as the refrigerant is at a lower temperature than the air.
World: "The Dutch are so ridiculously progressive on bike culture - what will be next? Bike escalators?!"
@BicycleDutch in Rotterdam in 2018:

@joeyfox85 @alev_marc Exactly.
To answer @alev_marc : if you have ceiling supply of warm air, you are better off with a floor return (#2) than a ceiling return (#3-5).
At least some distribution is required in all cases, so inlets and outlets aren’t at the same place.
Lorsque vous considérez l’achat d’une cuisinière au gaz, rappelez-vous cette statistique: 12,7% des cas d’asthme infantile aux USA sont lié à l’usage d’une cuisinière au gaz.
We now have an estimate of what slice of childhood asthma can be attributed to gas stoves, based on the document associations between gas stoves + childhood asthma. But what does 12.7% actually mean?
@alev_marc @joeyfox85 Really depends on the air temperature. If the air coming in is colder than the air in the room, inlets and outlets are easier to place (cases 1, 10-12). But when the air supplied to the room is hotter than the air in the room, outlets & inlets placement is much more important.
La France mandate une vérification annuelle des moyens de ventilation des écoles et services de garde, incluant une mesure de CO2. J’aurais préféré un autre indicateur (ACH) mais c’est un bon pas vers l’amélioration des systèmes CVCA.
We offer a translation into English of our synoptic on the new French environmental code relating to the measurement of CO2 in schools. A PDF version is available at https://t.co/R2WmMULY69
This is intended for foreigners who have expressed an interest in this new code.
@ssi_drw@DrMakokis@yvrairport What is it exactly that my education system “has no way of delivering” ?
Teaching white children about the treaties our government signed with Indigenous peoples in Canada ? Or being polite when asking travellers about their heritage?
@stressinaja @RomanFeiman Yes. If your program does not involve a thesis, you typically don’t need a statement of purpose.
Some course-based masters will include a multi semester project, supervised by a prof. Then still recommend being specific about topics of interest & desired learning outcomes.
I’ve crafted a standardized email I send back to https://t.co/9cDyomzHZg. and Ph.D. applicants who’ve missed the mark on their statement of interest. The major points are all listed in this thread.

Every year I read a lot of grad school applications from accomplished people that don't give me the info I'm looking for. It feels like a major hidden curriculum thing. So here's (my opinion on) how to write a great Statement of Purpose/Research for a PhD program. 🧵 1/
