An Inquest into the death of 12-year-old Mia Lucas has heard that she died just four weeks after being sectioned in a specialist children's mental health facility.

Mia, from Nottingham, took her own life at the Becton Centre for Children and Young People, in Sheffield, in January last year.

Her family had initially taken her to the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham for help, after she experienced sudden mood swings, extreme emotional outbursts and became physically aggressive.

A jury at the Inquest has been told to consider Mia’s mental health history, the decision to place her at The Becton Centre mental health facility in Sheffield and the care provided to her there, including "risk assessments around self harm".

They were also told they are likely to hear the frequent mention of autoimmune encephalitis - a rare, inflammatory brain condition which is caused by the immune system mistakenly attacking healthy brain cells in response to a previous infection - throughout the 10-day inquest.

Evidence from healthcare professionals from the Queen’s Medical Centre (QMC) in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire Healthcare Foundation Trust (NHFT) and Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is being heard.

Mia's mother Chloe Hayes is represented by solicitor Amy Rossall, of Hudgell Solicitors.

Cars coming down Heavygate Rd are driving into oncoming traffic on Howard Rd due to the temporary lights and reduction to single lane on the latter. Until yesterday this was prevented by closure of Heavygate, but all barriers and signs were removed this morning. @sccstreetsahead
