🚨Jamie Carragher SLAMS Michael Carrick after Manchester United squandered a 2–0 lead to lose to Brighton in the Carabao Cup:
🗣️ “I wrote in The Telegraph that Michael Carrick’s days of reckoning were coming, and I think we’re watching that reckoning unfold right now.
“Manchester United are 13th in the Premier League table.
“They lose at home to Manchester City despite playing 11 against 10 from the 23rd minute.
“And now they’ve somehow bottled a 2–0 lead against Brighton at Old Trafford and crashed out of the Carabao Cup.
“Carrick must be standing on that touchline wondering how all of this is happening to him.
“But this isn’t bad luck anymore. You’re Manchester United, you’re 2–0 up at home in a cup tie, and you still find a way to lose. That is an embarrassment.
“Back-to-back defeats at Old Trafford simply aren’t acceptable. This ground is supposed to intimidate opponents, yet teams are now coming here believing that no matter the situation, Manchester United will give them a way back into the game.
“Carrick received plenty of praise when things were going well, so he has to take the criticism now. You cannot keep talking about progress when you’re sitting 13th, losing against ten men and throwing away two-goal leads at home.
“Manchester United are a complete laughing stock right now.” #MUFC
Guardiola didn’t arrive at Man City and inherit Pellegrini’s squad for five years.
City cleared the decks.
2016: Hart loaned out. Nasri gone. Bony gone. Mangala gone. Demichelis gone.
2017: Zabaleta gone. Clichy gone. Sagna gone. Navas gone. Nolito gone. Iheanacho gone. Fernando gone. Caballero gone.
Then City gave Guardiola Ederson, Walker, Mendy, Danilo, Bernardo Silva.
That is what backing a new manager looks like.
Now compare that with United.
New manager. Same players.
Another manager. Same players.
Another rebuild. Same players.
Shaw has been here since 2014. Dalot since 2018. Maguire since 2019.
How many managers are these players supposed to outlast before United finally admit the squad needs a proper reset?
Guardiola got a squad built for his football. United keep asking managers to build football around the leftovers.
That is the difference.
Stop blaming every new manager for problems the club refuses to remove.
If you want a new era, you have to actually end the old one.
🚨💣 NEW: Wayne Rooney on his son’s determination to always fight for the Manchester United shirt rather than seek a move away from the club like JJ Gabriel:
🗣️ Rooney:
“If JJ Gabriel leaves, Kai’s ready to step up and will always fight for that shirt. Nobody should want to walk away from the greatest club in the world. It’s a decision you could regret for the rest of your life.
“Just look at Garnacho, and his career already looks like it’s heading down the drain at 22. Leaving Manchester United doesn’t automatically mean you’re moving forward.”
“Some players spend their whole lives dreaming of wearing that badge. Others only understand its value after they’ve thrown the opportunity away.”
“My son understands that wearing this badge is a privilege worth fighting for.” #MUFC
