Planting soybeans at high speeds makes it hard to maintain uniform depth. Nine year research shows Soybean at .5” depth result in 2.2 bu loss while depths of 3” results in 5.6 loss vs proper 1.5” depth. Slow down, set depth at 1.25-1.5” and set planter weight to improve yields.

Corn plants at emergence have photoreceptors that allow it to identify neighboring plants. In absence of weeds leaves orientate out into aisle. If weeds or other plants are present corn may orientate away causing leaves to become overlapped over rows. Loss sun efficiency, yields.
