Every year I make a resolution to spend more time in the hallways greeting Ss and my addition will be more encouraging words. It really is about relationships. #oklaed
@stampingout@phredd_evans Even with due dates you still have to DO the thing with penalties. Had a teacher not do GCNs due Oct 1, still had to do them May 15th. Taxes? Still wanted past due date with penalties.
But, is the grade proving academic knowledge or responsibility?Makes more sense to go toward standards based grading. Know it? Not know it? Eliminates the “when” did you learn it
@DavidJHuber@Kacy_EdDucator@BrianMendler I take it, read it, give constructive fb & a 0. 1 responsibility teachers have, is to prep students for the next level, how many univ profs will except a paper 6 mos late; none, bc the semester is over. There's academic & life skills teaching and we have to be willing to do both
@phredd_evans Consequence is it’s not available for the contest. Still important to complete for the value of learning. I love standards based grading but universities are not there yet.
@phredd_evans Thx Phredd my other “thing” is if an assignment is important to complete it should remain important. Consequences? Sure but assignments are for learning.
Also, as a university professor I did take late work, papers, and tests based on circumstances. Life happens and I had non-traditional students. That’s also what the “incomplete” grade is used for. The “not yet” grade.
