Mom with three kids had no housing - they were sleeping in shop doorways at night and getting kicked out each morning.
Mom decided to send the kids to an orphanage to make sure the kids were taken care of so that she could put her life put back together.
And she did it!!
An important part of our work is monitoring the reunifications of children and families. Our team meets with reunified families regularly to determine their successes and challenges and provide support.
From a Queen Mother:
Those who are compassionate will help families who are struggling, expanding family borders into the community members so that a family is never left without means to have their children provided for.
Most children don't know how to explain it or can't tell you why, but they just know that there's something about being a part of a family that brings a sense of fulfillment and happiness to them.
"I don't know why, but I'm really happy to be a part of a family."
From one of the children the Kaeme team is working with:
"There is a sense of pride about being in a family. I can't imagine not having a family, and I feel like children without parents will become bitter. I feel for them."
This is "H" and her brother. Her father brought her to Ghana from Sierra Leone in hopes for a brighter future but they were separated. With no other option, she ended up in an orphanage. She is now staying with her step mother and step father.
Sometimes, part of making sure a child gets a good education is making sure they can get to school! Some of the children Kaeme has reunified with their families live far from school. We have purchased them bikes to help their commute!
