A leaked recording from a 2017 owners meeting captured Bills owner Terry Pegula saying the league needed a Black figure to help address the protests. @kaepernick7 believes Jay-Z ultimately became that figure—using his enormous cultural influence to help the NFL move beyond the protest without addressing its core demands.

Colin Kaepernick experienced racism at a young age. He was tied to a rose tree and called a “n*gger”. A neighbor happened to pass by and stopped it—but the damage was already done.

What made it even harder? Race wasn’t something they talked about at home. @Kaepernick7 had experienced something he didn’t have the language—or the space—to process. There was nowhere for him to show up as his full self, be heard, and understand what had happened to him.
