@douglaswils@ppisciot I'm with you on the point of being unable to separate morality and state...it just seems that Christian morality forbids the State using its power to coerce adherence to the Christian faith. Christ seemed pretty clear on that.
@JosiahHawthorne @ZachKinder @JonathanSarfat1 Oh absolutely--I'm a big fan in particular of the whole Biblical idea of covenant and its positive influence in a variety of contexts and ways. It just seems like what you're describing is an entirely different vibe than what the more secular view of that idea is.
@JosiahHawthorne @ZachKinder @JonathanSarfat1 Now we're seeing the argument pop-up, more and more, that children have control over their own faculty for sexual expression, which seems to be linked to "minor attracted sex" interest.
@JosiahHawthorne @ZachKinder @JonathanSarfat1 whatever progressive goals are at work in the moment. I have a friend who has studied this for years--parents/family upbringing is seen as the antithesis and children need to be "freed" from the traditional parental control to choose for themselves.
@ZachKinder @JosiahHawthorne @JonathanSarfat1 It's not. Hard-left/Marxist ideology (not "left leaning") has explicitly argued that the nuclear family structure as it is currently defined is inherently oppressively, chauvinistic, i.e. I had one Marxist acquaintance bellow that the family is the foot of all evil. Meanwhile,
@drantbradley but even if I'm right that it is foolish, that also seems different from the kinist argument, yes? No? I'm not disagreeing with anything you've said, BTW, just seeking some clarity on some of this.
@drantbradley 2) I've heard the argument that at Babel, God divided people into their ethno-linguistic people groups. This in turn was extrapolated into the current dangers of nation-building where ancient, ethnic rivalries are forced to live together under one nation. That seems foolish
@JosiahHawthorne @JonathanSarfat1 I get this point. I just...the Far Left decries the family structure altogether. We Chri-Cons are concerned about links between welfare and the erosion of the family. I'm not saying I'm right on this, it's just where my concerns are.
@JosiahHawthorne I view it as a throw away vote. So then it becomes about policy. Some of those guys you are quoting are indeed inconsistent though. I'm just telling you how I had to process it. It's wretched.
@JosiahHawthorne The before/after were Clinton vs. Bush. Now we're dealing with Trump vs. Clinton/Biden. Are any of these great character choices? I think not. So then it becomes about policy. And you can talk about voting third party, but that's another moral quandary...
@Ripkin50 @dhogaza2 @HugoLevasseur @MattWalshBlog To say nothing of all the innocent lives lost in Gaza. Hamas needs to go. Iran's influence in the Middle East needs to be diminished. And little babies need not be buried in rubble.
@Ripkin50 @dhogaza2 @HugoLevasseur @MattWalshBlog My concern is that Israel did a good job, apparently, of dismantling terrorist leadership in the Western Bank in a fairly surgical manner. Why not do the same in Gaza? Going all in only empowers Hamas as a proxy for Iran, which further undermines alliances *against* Iran...
@RealPotatus@Adamerik91@ChayaRaichik10 I also remember a study of queer theory I did years ago. One author argued essentially that if gender is fluid, it stands to reason that age of consent is fluid.
@RealPotatus@Adamerik91@ChayaRaichik10 Also, 2) an argument that I've actually seen argued even by public officials that children should have full control of their own sexual consent, which of course is madness and hardly in the best interests of children who lack the maturity to make such decisions.
