As we learn that the Iranian regime may have murdered upwards of 12,000 civilian protesters in a week, Jafar Panahi should be getting a lot more criticism for this ludicrous position.

According to him, I guess the 12,000 dead Iranians just didn’t want change bad enough? Ridiculous.

Consider if the most high profile Iranian artist of the day had instead said “Yes, Iranians want freedom, but the Ayatollah has the guns, and any help from President Trump would be welcome.” That would be powerful stuff.

Instead, it feels like Panahi told a Hollywood crowd what it wanted to hear (“we don’t want orange man’s help!”) rather than what his countrymen needed to be said.
