@ericlanemartin Yes, doing well. I’m taking Hist 515: Intro to WH in my MA program at EWU. Prof is Amir Selmanovic. Do you know Joseph Lenti? I just learned that Manning was a mentor of his. Finished his undergrad at Northeastern in 2001. He’s my program director. Hope you’re doing well, Prof.
Deep into Patrick Manning’s “Navigating World History,” and what a delight to see the Ph.D. dissertation work of my own world history prof, mentor, and former advisor, @ericlanemartin cited in part IV. The debates over the legitimacy of WH are pretty wild.
Reading a book or so a week for Contemporary History 536. Finished John Lewis Gaddis’ “The Cold War.” It’s just another example of his thoughtful take on history. It got me to dig out my notes on another book he wrote, “The Landscape of History”—a must read.
@ericlanemartin I learned (and still retain) a tremendous amount from you. And utilize basically everything. Even your catchphrases—been knocking the dust off those memory banks! I also still owe you an email.
there are a bunch of crybabies in my public history course. idk how anyone is not getting full points on everything. wrapping up my third graduate class, and nothing has held a candle to how challenging prof @ericlanemartin ‘s undergrad classes were (are).
first day fall quarter session one, and the prof sets up a Zoom meet n greet. so it’s my nightmare, but on a screen so i can watch myself fidget and panic in real time. love technology.
i should’ve landed in Denver an hour ago to celebrate my best friend’s birthday. instead i picked up a nasty virus from the tiny people i cook for. missing out on a Lost Boys/goth themed party because they refuse to cover their coughs and sneezes.
A student gave me a note yesterday. In summary it read ‘I love you, lesbian’ with impressive drawings of hearts and utensils. I’m delighted that he sees Chalise and me as the power couple that we are. I love the first week of school.
I’ve never been airsick or suffered from altitude sickness. Yesterday, I had both. Not a good time. But I did get to see Casa Bonita for the first time in 20 years. She’s under construction, but she’s still beautiful.
“Conservatives want live babies so they can raise ‘em to be dead soldiers…they’re not pro-life, you know what they are? They’re anti-woman. Simple as it gets: anti-woman. They don’t like them. They don’t like women.”—George Carlin, 1996
