Rising Star Nominee ✨
Kalam Neale, British Esports. BE had a big year & edu is a vital part of their impact. Prev a teacher & leader at Barnsley College (now a Governor), Kalam steers all BE do in education (=alot). Huge respect for what he’s done since he’s been FT in esports!
Great to be invited to join the BBC Lifehacks live panel at East Durham College during the build-up to BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend.
Students joined our 'Staying Put, Moving Forward', hosted by the BBC. The discussion explored the incredible career opportunities that exist within the city, and the panel shared views that you no longer need to leave the North East to follow your dreams.
We shared insight around the work British Esports is doing to harness young people’s love for video gaming, and the education and work-ready skills development we deliver. Esports students develop valuable future-ready skills, from teamwork and leadership, communication to graphic design and business.
Stephen Gallagher, Commercial VP: “It’s not just video gaming - the esports education pathway delivers things like business studies, graphics development, broadcasting skills, marketing and technical skills.”
A big thank you to Helen Wardropper, Amy Elise Mercer, North East BIC, East Durham College and everyone involved for championing opportunities for the next generation!

British Esports is delighted to have welcomed Mayor of Sunderland Councillor @EhtheshamH to its National Esports Performance Campus @NEPCGG in Sunderland a few months ago.
Ehthesham Haque became the city’s youngest Mayor at 28-years-old and first Mayor of Asian descent when he was appointed in May 2025, after serving a year as Deputy Mayor.
The Mayor was given a tour of our facilities, tried out one of our sim racing rigs, and revealed he’s a bit of a gamer himself.
“I game all the time, I have a PS5, a PC, sports games, shooters, Battlefield, CoD, you name it, I’ve probably tried it!” he said.
"Thanks very much to the National Esports Performance Campus for inviting me here today. It’s been an absolute honour, it’s very impressive - there are advanced technologies and exciting things happening here."
