Transfer Portal Reality Check ⬇️
Not all portal players are valued the same. Most evaluations fall into 4 tiers:
Tier 1️⃣
• Proven FBS starter or high-end contributor
• Elite game film — dominant, mistake-minimal performance regardless of level
• Strong résumé with high PFF grades (FBS or FCS)
➡️ Immediate impact players
Tier 2️⃣
• Top-end D2 players
• FCS players with good film, solid (not elite) PFF
• FBS (P4/Higher G5) players with limited or no film
➡️ High-upside evaluations
Tier 3️⃣
• Above-average D2 players
• High producing D3 / NAIA portal entries
• Some G5/FCS players with little to no film
• FBS players with film who struggled or were benched
➡️ Developmental depth
Tier 4️⃣
• No meaningful film (NAIA–D2)
• FCS players who were benched
• Serial transfers with no production
• Poor game film and/or PFF grades
➡️ Harder evaluations, limited demand
Bottom line:
Film + production matter more than level. The portal isn’t equal—your tape tells your story. 🎥🏈
