As a member of the itty bitty titty community I am torn between thinking that bras for tiny boobs are a great idea and knowing that if I buy one I will never wear it
How often it is that a young person’s pain (self-harm; eating problems) is a violent attack, via the self, on a dysfunctional family, school or wider system; a violent call for systemic change. But we rarely see it like that - instead we pathologise them & treat *their* disorder.
Why is male loneliness and inability to get laid a societal issue but “no one will want you when you’re 30 and valueless” and “you’ll die miserable and alone with your cats” has for eons been used as a weapon to scaremonger women and was always treated as a moral failing?
Publicly defining yourself as queer means opening yourself up to criticism and discrimination, to wondering how your family will react when they hear you identify with queerness, to personally grappling with if you’re queer ENOUGH to match the media’s standards for queerness
Yes queer theory is trying to do something different - and there’s a long history of marginalization WITHIN these movements that created that desire for something different
Can we take a second and think about how historically a refusal to come out and identify with a discrete category of gayness could inhibit the participation of those marginalized by their sexuality in the gay rights movement
