China stopped using the Mercator map decades ago and they didn’t wait for permission from the UN or anyone else for that matter. They decided that the Mercator map doesn’t work for them and use an alternative in which China is at the centre of the world.

Nothing stops us from using a map in which Africa is not only at the centre but also on top of the world because a map is simply an abstraction we use to represent the world.

It boggles my mind that this issue somehow made it to the agenda at the UN and is something African politicians are celebrating.
