@telegram@valvesoftware I'll pass on the steam machine....but gladly go after the Frame as it's an upgrade to my quest 2 no matter what lol. Now if only I can order my controller I'd be set.
@CrimsonDesert_ Any luck on the Quick item wheels breaking on PC? It's so random but seems to always be after interacting with merchants and the like. I have to restart my game every time to get functionality back (default F1 thru F3). I did submit the proper logs and bug report.
Valve is letting people build their own Steam Machine with SteamOS, and this could be one of the biggest and smartest moves for Linux gaming.
• SteamOS 3.8 lets users build their own Steam Machine-style PC
• Valve says you can use whatever PC parts you want
• SteamOS 3.8.10 improves compatibility with recent Intel and AMD platforms
• NVIDIA support is being worked on
• Valve says it is collaborating closely with NVIDIA
• NVIDIA support may not arrive this year
• Current SteamOS installs are still better for fresh installs, not dual-boot setups
• You may need to wipe the drive to install it
• Best use case right now is a console-like PC connected to a TV
• SteamOS still gives access to shader precompilation and the Steam Deck-style gaming experience
• Bazzite and Nobara are still good alternatives if you want a more mature desktop Linux setup
If Valve can make SteamOS easy to install on normal gaming PCs, especially with NVIDIA support, that gives PC gamers a real alternative to Windows.
