Job 12:12 — “Wisdom is found with the elderly, and understanding comes with long life.”
To dismiss those who walked the road before you is to reject the very counsel that shortens your stumbles. Listen, and you inherit what years cannot buy.

@RuthRujokiM am deeply sorry for your loss.
Losing a mother is losing the anchor of one's life. May the Almighty grant you and your entire family strength and fortitude in this most difficult moment, and may the soul of Mama Mukuru Verinah Rujoki rest in eternal peace.

[Hon Ruth Rujoki Mushabe @RuthRujokiM]

It is with a deeply broken heart that I announce the passing of my beloved mother, Mukuru Verinah Rujoki.
Losing a mother leaves a pain words cannot express and a void no one can fill. Her love, sacrifices and memories will forever remain engraved in our hearts.
Though she is gone, her legacy will live on.
I humbly inform H.E. the President @KagutaMuseveni , the First Lady Mama @JanetMuseveni , the Rt. Hon. Speaker @ObothOboth , the Rt. Hon. Deputy Speaker @Thomas_Tayebwa ,Honourable Members of @Parliament_Ug and the people of Kiruhura District of this profound loss.
May the Almighty God grant our family strength and comfort during this difficult time and may our Mum’s soul rest in eternal peace.

@OdrekRwabwogo You have ably articulated the true economics of transformation — that an animal is not just meat but an entire industrial ecosystem, and this is exactly the import-substitution and job-creation logic our country needs to stop exporting raw commodities and jobs.

[Odrek Rwabwogo @OdrekRwabwogo]

When a farmer raises an animal to 400 kg over 18 months and brings it to the abattoir, most of us assume the business is meat. It is more than that.

That single slaughterhouse holds nine factories: bone meal, leather, tallow, horns and hooves, manure, biogas, pharmaceutical ingredients, blood meal, and only then the meat. About 150 kg of the animal is what we sell. The rest is value we abandon.

The cost of abandoning it shows up in our import bill. We bring in close to a million kilograms of leather goods, 3.7 million kilograms of soap and candles from Kenya, and more than 300,000 tonnes of fertiliser every year. Much of this could come from animals we already slaughter.

The jobs case is just as clear. Five jobs on each of the eight by-product lines gives 40 jobs per animal. An abattoir handling 150 animals a day carries 6,000 jobs.
This thinking is the foundation of how we at PACEID (@paceidug) approach value addition across the 13 sectors we work on. Each sector is a value chain to be built at home, so that Uganda exports higher-value products rather than raw commodities.

None of it happens in pieces, though. It takes ecosystem thinking: a large enough herd, land, energy, standards, skills and aggregation centres, planned together, with farmers connected to markets, finance and government.

Argentina once fed Europe with its beef and missed the window to build the value chain. Our task is to make sure Uganda does not miss its own.
Next week: We look at fish value chain.

@norbertmao
Teargas in maternity ward. Far from it. Suggested we replace blind faith with scientific fact.
If paternity must forever remain a matter of faith, then let us at least make that faith an informed_ faith.
The Luo are wise, but even wisdom must submit to evidence. 😆

[Norbert Mao @norbertmao]

Prof. Ephraim Kamuntu has detonated the mother of all bombs. Mandatory DNA tests to determine the paternity of unborn babies? This is like lobbing teargas into maternity wards🤣. But the Luo say “PATERNITY IS A MATTER OF FAITH. MATERNITY IS A MATTER OF FACT.” Now cometh the question of surrogate mothers, fathers and babies! In this age and era a DNA test is no silver bullet! Let the debate begin.

@HonKateshD
To remember that your late father, Mzee Gideon Kateshumbwa, both taught me and ushered me into the UPC youth wing in the early 60s is to remind me that our roots run far deeper than politics.
My family and I remain profoundly grateful for this enduring bond.

[Hon. Kateshumbwa Dicksons @HonKateshD]

Honored to join @KamuntuProf , MP Sheema South and Minister of Internal Affairs, as he hosted @KagutaMuseveni at Bugongi Stadium for his Thanksgiving Ceremony.

The President appreciated Sheema's progress in development and urged leaders to continue "kwinegyeza": encouraging, sensitizing and urging our people to get out of poverty.
I thank God for Prof. Kamuntu's life and treasure his contribution. My late father, Gideon Kateshumbwa, recruited him into the UPC youth wing in the early 60s when he was a party leader in Ankole, and also taught him at school. Our family ties are deeply rooted.

[Prof. EPHRAIM KAMUNTU @KamuntuProf]

@RuthRujokiM I am grateful for your gracious presence and your most eloquent tribute. To have shared six decades of fellowship with H.E.@KagutaMuseveni since our days at Mbarara High School and Ntare is a blessing that time has preserved. My family and I remain deeply indebted.

[Hon Ruth Rujoki Mushabe @RuthRujokiM]

I was deeply honoured to attend the Hon Minister Prof Kamuntu’s @KamuntuProf thanksgiving celebration graced by H.E. President @KagutaMuseveni.
What made the occasion truly special was the remarkable bond between the President and Prof Kamuntu dating back to 1959, a relationship that has stood the test of time for over six decades. Such enduring ties speak volumes about the power of loyalty and shared history.
Congratulations Prof Kamuntu on this milestone.
May the bonds you have nurtured over the decades continue to be a source of strength and joy. It was a privilege to witness such a meaningful celebration of life lasting relationships.

[Prof. EPHRAIM KAMUNTU @KamuntuProf]

Your attendance was not merely a gesture, but a testament to comradeship and respect. My family and the people of Sheema South are deeply grateful for your solidarity.

Thank you for making our day memorable.

[Thomas Tayebwa @Thomas_Tayebwa]

I joined Hon. Prof. Ephraim Kamuntu and his family, colleagues, and the people of Sheema South for his thanksgiving ceremony at Bugongi Town Council Playground, where H.E. @KagutaMuseveni was the Chief Guest.

President Museveni and Prof. Kamuntu have known each other since 1959, when they were students at Mbarara High School and later at Ntare School. The President was one class ahead of Prof. Kamuntu. They both recounted their long-standing friendship. Prof. Kamuntu served as the President's campaign manager when he contested for the position of President of the Debating Union, which he won. They were also members of the Scripture Union and played football together at Ntare School.

The President used his speech to explain how a visit to a stock farm while he was still a student at Ntare School, where he observed better farming methods, inspired him to begin promoting transformed agriculture. This involved moving from growing food for the household to producing for income and saving for the family, first in Nyabushozi and later across the country, from 1995 to date.

He explained, using examples, how families that start small can multiply their goats, cows, and piggery projects, among others, by sustaining their efforts. This is how they can increase their household incomes.

Furthermore, he advised families to focus on irrigation, practise zero grazing for cattle and goats, and take full advantage of government programmes such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), which is already helping people get out of poverty. He challenged us, as leaders, to be at the forefront of sensitising people in the fight against poverty.

For me, I celebrate Prof. Kamuntu for many reasons. One of them is that in 1986 he donated iron sheets to some of the schools I attended in my constituency.

🇺🇬 Happening now in Sheema!

Prof. Ephraim Kamuntu, Minister of Internal Affairs, at his Thanksgiving ceremony attended by H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and other guests, has just shared a powerful scripture:

📖 “Wisdom is found with the elderly, and understanding comes with long life.” — Job 12:12 (CSB)

To those who keep saying “Abakadde bagende” (let the old people go), it seems tebayina jebalaga 🫣😂

But the big question is: Will the wisdom of our elders be enough to help Uganda run after the corrupt, hold them accountable and recover what belongs to the people? 🇺🇬

That’s true @HonAnkunda
Where my President abideth, there I also abideth. So long as His Excellency @KagutaMuseveni is still here, I am also still here. And when he shall depart, I shall depart with him. Loyalty, in its purest form, knows no retirement.
