KWS calls it misleading to hold a funeral for NNP. The Park lost 100acres to the SGR. 56acres to the Southern Bypass. 23 acres to the Ole Sereni Bypass. All of Ole Sereni and the Samaj complex. And now losing acreage to a PARKING LOT!! #SaveNNP#NationalParkNotCarPark
As we mark Wangari Maathai Day, today’s People Daily features an opinion piece by our Advocacy Manager Job Mwangi, on why Karura Forest is testing Kenya’s promise to protect public forests. Join the conversation. #HandsOffKarura
Karura Forest is a public asset that must be protected through transparency, legality and public participation. We oppose the ongoing barracks development and call on @KeForestService to immediately halt the works and subject the project to full public scrutiny.

🎉🎊VICTORY FOR KARURA FOREST!
Today, the ELC Court in Milimani has ruled that only 0.1233 hectares of Karura Forest can be utilized for the expansion of Kiambu Road & NOT 51.64 acres as licensed to KENHA by KFS.
This is a monumental win for our forests. #SaveKaruraForest
🚨Dear Kenyans, Karura Forest needs you! Today being Prof. Maathai’s birthday, we honor her legacy by standing against the plan to take 51.64 acres from Karura Forest for Kiambu Road expansion. She fought for Karura and now it is our turn! Join the movement to #SaveKarura 🌿✊🏾
The High Court has found the former Inspector General @IG_NPS of the National Police Service @NPSOfficial_KE guilty in his personal capacity for violations of constitutional rights during a peaceful protest in April 2024. Specifically, the court ruled that:
1.Accountability and Personal Liability:
-The IG is accountable and personally liable for actions or omissions of police officers under his command that infringe on rights under Articles 36 (freedom of association), 37 (right to assemble, demonstrate, and picket), and 41 (labor rights) of the Constitution.
This includes:
a) Issuing unconstitutional orders to use unlawful force against peaceful and unarmed assemblies.
b) Failing to investigate and discipline officers who violate constitutional rights through unlawful force.
2.Criminal Responsibility:
-The IG can be held criminally responsible for acts by officers under their command if those acts involve violent disruption of peaceful assemblies or other rights-protected activities.
-Such actions may lead to criminal charges if they align with offences defined by law.
In this specific case, former IG Koome was held personally liable for the police officers' assault on Dr. @Davji Atela, Secretary General of the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union @kmpdu, during a peaceful protest.

🌳 BREAKING: The Green Belt Movement has moved to court to stop the government's plan to annex 51.64 acres of Karura Forest for expansion of Kiambu Road. Kenyans, Karura is our heritage and we must act now to stop this malicious encroachment.#SaveKarura
Not Again @SakajaJohnson. Uhuru Park & Central Park are public property. We will not watch as you privatize the only remaining green spaces in Nairobi. See you back in court on 10.12.24 for the hearing of the ongoing petition about these two parks. #FreeUhuruPark#FreeCentralPark
🎉🎉 After 12 years of tireless efforts, the court has declared the NG-CDF Act, 2015, as amended in 2022 and 2023, UNCONSTITUTIONAL, and has ordered that it ceases to operate at the stroke of midnight on 30th June 2026! @GikonyoCiru@katibainstitute@MutemiWaKiama@TISAKenya
Thank you for the numerous invitations to engage on @XSpaces, the new online town hall.
It is encouraging to see the public becoming more informed and actively engaging with their elected leaders. In a democratic society, an informed citizenry plays a vital role in holding leaders accountable, shaping policies, and promoting transparency in government.
Social media platforms and online forums provide avenues for people to discuss and debate important topics, share opinions, and connect with like-minded individuals.
Let’s keep this culture of civic engagement and holding leaders accountable.
Kenya is changing.
Here is the riveting speech by Senator @CrystalAsige - nominated by the ODM Party to represent Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) - on the floor of the Senate today.
“Tell them about the dream, Martin.” It was MLK’s favorite Gospel singer Mahalia Jackson who turned around in her seat and said those words. He put away the speech he had already written and delivered the powerful extemporaneous “I Have A Dream” speech we know today.
