The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) today officially opened its first Mediation Training programme outside Nairobi, marking the extension of the Accelerated Training on Mediation initiative to the Coast region. The training, running from 20th to 24th July 2026, delivers the standard 40-hour curriculum required for mediation accreditation.
This rollout fulfils a commitment made by the Society to extend the programme to all LSK branches nationwide.
The Coast cohort has attracted participants from across the region, including advocates travelling from Taveta, Lamu, and Hola, reflecting sustained interest among members of the Bar in developing competency in Alternative Dispute Resolution. The cohort also reflects broad representation across experience levels, with participants ranging from an advocate of 44 years' standing to others in their first year of practice.
Speaking at the official opening, Mr. Titus Mukanzi, Co-Convenor of the LSK ADR Committee, congratulated the trainees on their commitment to the full week-long programme and reaffirmed the Committee's undertaking to expedite the accreditation process for participants following their certification on 24th July 2026.
The ADR Committee continues to prioritise the expansion of mediation training as part of its broader mandate to strengthen ADR capacity within the profession.
So much has been said about SHA, but let me share my experience. My son was admitted for surgery at a facility in Mombasa. I was asked whether I had a valid SHA cover, and I confirmed. SHA paid Kshs. 77,840 for the surgery. I share this simply to say: in my experience, SHA works.
After watching the story about MP Ongondo Were on KTN, one is reminded of a painful truth — sometimes the greatest danger comes from those closest to us. Truly, whoever said “Kikulacho ki nguoni mwako” spoke profound wisdom.
Former Chief Justice David Kenani Maraga should suspend his presidential bid immediately. Its rather becoming embarrassing for a former CJ to be waving at trees and an imaginary crowd.
