@KSCorrections updates families. It’s great. But it’s turned into a toot your own horn thing. And comes off tonedeaf. Info about visits longer than an hour? A hug? A kiss? Programs are great. But have a long sentence? DRs? You don’t qualify. #goodstart#ksleg#prison#domore
We often sit & watch while prison staff eat apples they bring in for lunch - we have not had fruit for 10 yrs. An officer gave an inmate an apple he wasn't going to eat & was walked out & fired. If only they would show such concern with staff selling us heroin & fentanyl.
@MissouriPrison @MoCorrections Good grief. So you drive hours and hope you’re the first? Spend hundreds to fly and don’t get in? Wow. Can’t see that this will cause any problems!
"The idea that whether you live or die may turn on whether or not you are lucky enough to have a lawyer that can get your case in front of someone with that kind of megaphone — that’s just an indication of the arbitrariness of our system.”— @CassyStubbsNC https://t.co/ZXNnuAi0Oy
From 2001 to 2018, the number of people who have died of drug or alcohol intoxication in state prisons increased by more than 600%, according to an analysis of newly-released data. In county jails, overdose deaths increased by over 200%.

Death row prisoner Rodney Reed’s case is back in the courts, two years after his innocence claims were championed by Beyonce, Oprah, and others. But what role should celebrities play in the justice system? https://t.co/BmMl9SjP5v
@KSCorrections you’re weary are you? Of what exactly? You have hour jobs. Your life has gone on. But ours? One hour visit per week still no contact? Don’t encourage us to mask and follow mitigation protocol when you don’t. The double standards are staggering.
The Marshall Project has made the decision to stop using terms like “convict,” “inmate,” and “felon” in our journalism. Journalism is a discipline of clarity. That’s why we’ve solidified our policy for how we talk about people behind bars:

Society's response to someone behaving violently or hatefully is to incarcerate them in places infamous for their hate and violence. Then, after a while, release them back into the community and pretend to be dumbfounded when they aren't 'better.'
