Clean cooking is central to SDG 7—with far-reaching impacts on health, gender equality, climate action, and economic development.
At #ARFSD12, I opened the conversation on advancing this agenda.
Scaling progress will require stronger alignment across policy, financing, and value chains—alongside greater emphasis on domestic markets and private sector leadership.
Closing the gap is no longer optional—it’s essential.
Climate, water, energy & food systems are deeply interconnected, yet too often addressed in silos across investment, planning & implementation.
Pleased to represent @ahunnaeziakonwa in engaging with the Regional Collaborative Platform for Africa, UN Resident Coordinators & partners at the #ARFSD12 pre-event on advancing integrated solutions for sustainable development.

Indeed @MadelenaMonoja "Institutional clean cooking must be financed as core social infrastructure, the same way we finance hospitals, electrification, and water systems." Congratulations to the team.
Speaking at the High-Level Summit on Unlocking Finance & Investment for Institutional Cooking in Kenya, our Deputy Resident Representative – Programmes, @MadelenaMonoja, emphasized a powerful shift in mindset for the sector:
“Institutional clean cooking must be financed as core social infrastructure, the same way we finance hospitals, electrification, and water systems.”
She noted that with over 45,000 schools, as well as hospitals and correctional facilities serving millions daily, clean cooking in public institutions represents one of Kenya’s largest and most investable access gaps. Treating institutional kitchens as infrastructure, not one-off projects, will unlock scaled financing, stronger service models, and healthier learning and working environments nationwide.
This is exactly the transition @UNDP is driving: from pilot projects to bankable portfolios that attract domestic lenders and private capital for nationwide impact.
On the sidelines of @ACS2ET, I met #Ghana’s VP H.E. @NJOAgyemang to discuss shared commitment to resilience building and economic transformation — with a focus on women - and the @timbuktooafrica#agritech Pan-African Hub 🌍🌾 to be hosted in Accra .
At the #AfricaClimateSummit, I joined partners at the @_AfricanUnion Pavilion to discuss reforms needed to advance the African Single Electricity Market #AfSEM and the Continental Power Systems Masterplan.
🟢 Strengthen utility governance & financial viability
🟢 Improve regulatory collaboration
🟢 Expand digital infrastructure
🟢 Adopt cost-reflective tariffs
These reforms are essential for integrated, climate-resilient energy systems that can power Africa’s green future.
Congrats to the pioneering innovators who graduated from @timbuktooAfrica’s HealthTech Hub Accelerator!
These trailblazing young changemakers received strategic support to refine their models and scale their impact. @UNDP is proud to be part of your journey.
Off-grid is not an afterthought. From rural villages to urban centers, distributed renewable energy systems are shaping the backbone of tomorrow’s infrastructure.

Democracy thrives in #Ghana! 🇬🇭 Congratulations to new President-Elect @JDMahama & @NJOAgyemang, the first woman to become VP.
The country continues to make history. We salute VP @MBawumia for prioritizing peace & conceding early- a proud moment for democratic values.
#Africa has tools to unlock the full potential of off-grid energy solutions to light up the future. This can be realized w/the right:
🔶legal frameworks
🔶capacity-strengthening
🔶policy enforcement

Great meeting w Richard Nelson Power Africa Coordinator, at #COP29 to discuss strategies to scale clean energy in Africa.
Key focuses: identifying collaboration opportunities, scale innovative financing, & leveraging initiatives like UNDP's Minigrids Program & Mission 300. 🌍
Prof Tahseen supervised my PhD. thesis. She's passionate about what mechanisms can be put in place to ensure climate financing and investment trickle down directly to the most poor people and communities who are the first recipients of the adverse impacts of climate change!
Excited to be launching this PhD opportunity with @GlasgowCC. We are focussed and determined to make climate just financing a reality through excellence in research.

How can we speed up the global energy transition?
The question is on everyone's minds as the Energy Day kicks off at #COP29 today.
Our @JanaKoperniech explains why a just transition, with a focus on developing countries, is critical.
As nations prepare for #COP29, robust risk governance is key for progress.
@UNDPEnergyHub's new policy brief highlights strategies for developing nations to build resilience by integrating economic, social, & environmental risks into energy policies💡
