Apparently I set the chat delays wrong in Kantan Chat😩 I had it set a delay after a message was sent rather than delaying the message actively being typed. So now I have to go back and edit the previous chat exercises to tweak the delays on each message to reflect this fix
Got around to implementing that idea where it'll highlight the Japanese example and its English translation when you hover over it and vice versa. Should make comparing the examples while you're reading much easier
Haven't made too many progress updates on Kantan Japanese since I've mostly been working on educational content, but one improvement I've made recently is to the example dialogue which now:
- has improved separation.
- shows a number for each line.
- highlights keywords.
It's been a bit since my last progress update on Kantan Japanese, so here's a quick summary of some of the things I've been working on! My favorite addition this month was the Kanji dictionary which was something I wanted to implement for a long time on my previous projects.
Finally got the kanji dictionary setup and also managed to extend the available entries using KANJIDIC! It'll let you see basic meanings at a glance and more detailed information on a kanji if you click on it. It's pretty simple atm, but I plan to expand it more in the future.
Our illustrator whipped up a new Kanny recently which I thought would look perfect on our quiz results screen. She'll happily hand you a grade of F through A+ depending on how you did
I've been working on some slight improvements to things while writing up exercises and articles recently. One of those things is the "due" tab on reviews now shows how many days ago a review was due and also groups any other exercises due on that day together.
Been experimenting with saving the reading progress for articles, so if someone wants to take a break they can immediately pick up where they left off. Also added a little progress bar to the top of these pages so you can know how much is left to read, too.
Been a bit since my last progress update, so here's a quick summary of some of the things I've been working on for Kantan Japanese! Had a lot of fun working on Kantan Chat this month and I'm looking forward to making some more exercises for it.
Finally got around to rigging up a UI for generating the chat exercises. There's a whole bunch you can do, between messages and replies, such as only showing certain messages when a choice is picked or a certain amount of problems were answered correctly. We also got cute emotes!
Quick demo of our new text message exercise type with Kan-tan. It's pretty similar to multiple choice, but it's more conversation oriented. I'm planning to steadily increase the amount of Japanese used as lessons go on and students learn more words/grammar.
