VIDEO: The situation at some of the entrances to the Daily Monitor headquarters in Kampala during a military siege on June 28, 2026.
Following an order by military chief Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Nation Media Group (NMG) outlets, including NTV, Spark TV, Daily Monitor, KFM, Dembe FM, and The East African, among others, were ordered shut down in a crackdown during the early hours of Sunday, as tensions escalated around one of Uganda's most influential media houses.

You can abduct and torture @NinyeTabz but you cannot break his resolve.
This does not show the strength of the regime, it only exposes how weak and decadent it is.
We stand with you my brother.
Just like the Amin regime, one day all this will be history.

On 3rd June 2019, Johnbosco Kibalama was abducted from Gayaza Road. Today marks seven years since he was taken away without trace. He was a pioneer #PeoplePower coordinator. In these 7 years, his mother, father, andl wife have passed on. All manner of efforts have been made to locate him without success. Robina Nabbanja has previously confirmed that he's in the custody of the state. And yet, Kibalama is still missing. How sad that his captors chose #UgandaMartyrsDay to commit this great crime against humanity. As we commemorate this day, we take a moment to remember all our disappeared, murdered and detained comrades.

Amidst endless diversions by the regime to deflect citizens' attention from the recent electoral fraud and Uganda's deepening moral and institutional collapse, these words by retiring Judge His Lordship Stephen Egonda-Ntende at his farewell sitting yesterday could not have come at a better time. The Judge urged the judiciary to search deeply within itself for a soul.
He boldly condemned the injustice and cruelty of continuing to jail comrade Waiswa Mufumbiro without bail beyond the constitutional limit, moreover on a minor offence, to the extent of denying him the chance to accompany his children to bury their mother, his wife, the late Edith Katende.
Indeed, as the good Judge suggested, no Ugandan should ever be treated like this again by their own country!
Today marks one year since Tundu Lissu was arbitrarily detained and jailed on bogus charges. #Tanzania has descended into totalitarianism and it is our duty to stand up and speak out. Silence only emboldens @SuluhuSamia. Break the fear and rise in solidarity. #FreeTunduLissu

As activists and pro-democracy campaigners, we cannot give up. And of course, the people of Africa are not waiting for saviors—they are the agents of their own destiny. But history belongs to those who keep showing up, even when the odds seem impossible.
