Reportedly, a female surgical trainee doctor has suffered critical injuries in an acid attack at Civil Hospital Quetta and is currently fighting for her life. Just weeks ago, a female doctor was brutally murdered in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

How many more doctors must be attacked before authorities take their safety seriously?

Doctors are expected to work in overcrowded, high-pressure environments with little to no security. Every major city has only a handful of large public hospitals, yet adequate police presence is often absent. Meanwhile, politicians, bureaucrats, and judges continue to enjoy extensive security details and police escorts.

Enough is enough.

From exploitation of young doctors by some private hospitals, to unemployment, workplace violence, humiliation, assaults, and now horrific attacks—our healthcare workers are being failed at every level.

Protecting doctors is not a privilege; it is a necessity for any functioning healthcare system. Immediate and permanent security measures must be implemented in hospitals across Pakistan before another tragedy occurs.

I fully endorse the demand to increase doctors’ salaries in Pakistan. This is not an unreasonable ask, it is a matter of dignity, fairness, and survival of the healthcare system.

Young doctors in Pakistan are among the brightest minds of the nation. They spend nearly a decade studying relentlessly, sacrifice their youth in training, work brutal 100+ hour weeks during house jobs and residency, and carry the responsibility of human lives every single day.

Yet many are paid less than drivers and security guards. This level of exploitation, especially in some private hospitals, is shameful and unacceptable.

If urgent reforms are not made, Pakistan will continue losing its best doctors to other countries at an alarming rate. This brain drain will not only devastate the medical profession, it will ultimately harm millions of patients and weaken the entire healthcare system of the country.

The disrespect and violence against doctors in Pakistan are reaching dangerous levels. While authorities keep imposing stricter rules on physicians, even discouraging cellphone use during duty hours despite phones being essential for communication, reviewing records, and coordinating patient care, there is still no proper security for healthcare workers.

Doctors are being assaulted by angry patients and attendants with little to no accountability. In any civilized society, attacking a doctor on duty would lead to immediate arrest and strict legal action.

There must be proper police presence in emergency departments of all major hospitals, and anyone assaulting healthcare workers should be prosecuted and jailed. Enough is enough. Doctors cannot continue saving lives while fearing for their own safety.

پاکستان میں ڈاکٹروں کی بے عزتی اور ان پر حملے خطرناک حد تک بڑھتے جا رہے ہیں۔ ایک طرف حکومت ڈاکٹروں پر مزید سخت قوانین لگا رہی ہے، حتیٰ کہ ڈیوٹی کے دوران موبائل فون استعمال نہ کرنے کی بات کی جا رہی ہے، حالانکہ موبائل مریضوں کے ریکارڈ دیکھنے، رابطے اور علاج کے لیے ضروری ہوتے ہیں۔ دوسری طرف ڈاکٹروں کی حفاظت کے لیے مناسب سیکیورٹی موجود نہیں۔

مریض اور ان کے رشتہ دار غصے میں آ کر ڈاکٹروں پر حملے کرتے ہیں، لیکن اکثر ان کے خلاف کوئی سخت کارروائی نہیں ہوتی۔ کسی بھی مہذب ملک میں ڈیوٹی پر موجود ڈاکٹر پر حملہ کرنے والا سیدھا جیل جاتا ہے۔

بڑے اسپتالوں کے ایمرجنسی وارڈز میں مناسب پولیس سیکیورٹی ہونی چاہیے، اور جو بھی ڈاکٹر پر حملہ کرے اسے فوراً گرفتار کر کے سزا دی جانی چاہیے۔ اب بہت ہو چکا۔
