This is cowardice, with democracy as its casualty. @realdonaldtrump will see this as an invitation to further intimidate owner @jeffbezos (and others). Disturbing spinelessness at an institution famed for courage.
@MSchlippenbach@Dagmar_Ffm@heplev Thanks for that correction, Maria. I'm David E. Kaplan (and a long-time journalist) but not the author of that story.
3. 💬“We’re losing ground & it's happening at an alarming rate. That’s the bad news. The good news is that there’s over 2100 of you here & we are not going anywhere. Not only are we not going anywhere, we are growing. They cannot put this genie back in the bottle.” - @KaplanDave

Globally, watchdog reporters are asking autocrats & oligarchs tough questions about accountability & abuses. But today's muckrakers are under a furious backlash by those who would shut them down. That's why GIJN exists.
& our work is made possible by you: https://t.co/NgKo7JGMuH
Thanks @DrewOCCRP. Praise from one's colleagues is always the best. We had lots of help from you, @OCCRP, and so many others. Let's talk crime later -- we still have a global conference to organize (#gijc23).
It's the end of an era at @gijn. Its first director Dave Kaplan is stepping down. While he will always be known for making GIJN the world's preeminent investigative support org, to me he's one of the greats of organized crime reporting. Maybe another book Dave?
