Decided to give myself until the end of Jan to finish my novel's 2nd draft. Why?
- I hate myself clearly
- Iโm impatient
- Setting a goal related to a love rather than a guilt-provoked sense of obligation is much more important to get through January. #WritingCommunity
Okay 1st (ish) draft done...now what?๐
Plan so far...
- Don't look at it for a while
- Read
- Fall into despair
- Edit structure, character arcs, etc
- Revise into 2nd/3rd/75th draft
- Line editing and proofing
- Feedback๐ฑ
Anyone have any other tips? #WritingCommunity
One of the biggest mistakes I see when editing 2000+ words/day:
Filler.
Needless words create friction and harm readability.
Here are 5 filler sentences (edited with changes explained):
@CNBCMakeIt Wild how people are saying these aren't real jobs when they're responding to a tweet:
- Posted by a social media manager
- With a graphic designed by a graphic designer
- About an article written by a writer
- As part of an editorial calendar managed by a marketing manager๐
@Danaiwrites Yeah you're right. It doesn't always feel very creative when you're writing about random stuff but I suppose it's still developing writing skills in different ways. I'm sure I'll get back to fiction eventually. Thank you๐
I haven't written fiction in months. Just can't do it. Am I still a writer? Who knows but I have written about mortgages several times since then, which is equally as exciting... #freelancewriter#WritingCommunity
@shiraisinspired This is such a helpful thread. There's so much misunderstanding about OCD, so it's good seeing people talking about what it's really like. Mental compulsions is something I hadn't thought of before (because they go unnoticed I suppose) so thank you!
