Blizzard was my dream company, but sadly today I got laid off with other incredibly talented people.
I need time to process this, but I have to time because I'm on work visa. If there is any cool project/team hiring character artist, plz let me know.
Just to be clear, I will not be engaging with any twitter trolls that want to diminish the hard work and livelihoods of the game developers that are losing their jobs. You are blocked immediately. You have no voice here.
I am completely devastated. I was cut as part of the huge Blizzard layoffs 😭 Working on Overwatch has been the biggest dream come true, OW was my life. Best team ever, and I had done so much for it 💔 I'm absolutely heartbroken. I'll be looking for work once I stop crying.
Our feature tutorial/artist for today is this great reference for WHERE RIBS SHOW by the talented
@kato_anatomy! Obviously this very much depends on character BUILD, but knowing WHERE the ribs sit is useful from a structural point of view, no matter your character’s body shape.
// learning to "let the animation go!"
This was a battle idle standoff animation which seamlessly loops until the player input triggers the next animation on the list.
The most challenging part animating these quads aside from the obvious "it needs to look good" are the very tight deadlines we had to get these done. If my memory serves me well, we had 3 days to animate and no matter what, we had to stop on day 3 otherwise we would never hit our production deadlines.
The reason why it's tough is because no matter what you animate, biped, quad, human, creature etc... it generally takes a bit of time to warm up to the rig. Similar to actors having to reshoot a scene many times over until the performance feels right.
By day 3 you're getting so used to the rig that you want to do even more but the clock and production schedule are set and the only thing you can do is learn to let the animation go.
