@ur_nyagatare3 Nyagatare Campus (CVAS), discussions focused on “AI-Driven Disease Surveillance and Smart Livestock Systems for Food Security and Economic Growth.”

Meanwhile, @UR_CoE (College of Education), students explored “AI-Powered Personalised & Adaptive Learning.”

These conversations showcased how AI can accelerate innovation, strengthen education, enhance agriculture, and support Rwanda’s digital transformation journey.

Centered on “Growing and Strengthening Rwanda’s Digital Resilience,” the discussion highlighted the critical role of local peering, stronger interconnection, and ecosystem-wide collaboration in building a faster, more secure, and cost-efficient internet in Rwanda.

Real-world insights, shared challenges, and actionable solutions made one thing clear: Rwanda’s digital future will be built together, locally.

The Minister of State at @RwandaICT, @yves_Iradukunda, emphasized that building a resilient digital economy is central to achieving Rwanda’s Vision 2050

“We cannot advance our digital future without strong, local interconnection. Today, we are still paying others to carry our own traffic, this must change through collaboration, localization, and strategic investment.”

He highlighted the need to strengthen infrastructure, expand data center capacity, promote local cloud, and align policy efforts to support key sectors such as financial services, e-government, education, and healthcare.

Rwanda is excited to host the 2026 edition of the Africa Peering and Interconnection Forum (AfPIF), marking the second time the country welcomes this key continental event, following a successful gathering in 2022.

AfPIF provides a unique platform for strengthening Africa’s Internet ecosystem. It brings together network operators, content providers, data center specialists, policymakers, and technical experts to explore solutions for improving interconnection, cross-border traffic, local content distribution, and overall Internet connectivity across the region.

Being chosen as host again highlights Rwanda’s ongoing digital progress. Strategic ICT investments, supportive policies, and a growing community of entrepreneurs, technology companies, and international partners continue to establish Kigali as a center for innovation.

We look forward to bringing the AfPIF community back to Kigali in 2026, fostering new collaborations, generating innovative ideas, and advancing Africa’s interconnection landscape.
