#TheaterTreffen2024 is in full swing!
Beyond their stellar selection of German theatre, @blnfestspiele is gifting a wider audience with recordings available online each year. This time, they're sharing 3 of the top 10 productions, which are sold out at the venue.
Elena Ferrante writes some of the most brilliant openings, and I love her description of what she tries to go for in her openings here
(from the Paris Review interview)
I want to live in a world where people don’t buy pets, but cohabit in harmony with the nature around and care about🦩🦉and 🐍 🐍 , and 🐝 🐝, and 🐜 🐜… not just 🐈⬛🐈 & 🐩🐕. As long as we care only about our own nest, we’re doomed. We really are.
@ArtySadie Totally agree, awesome production, and the behind scenes stories are interesting too as the film was shot during WW2 in difficult (and censorship) conditions. Also, a funny fact: during Soviet years, this film was always broadcasted on NY eve. Most people knew it by heart!
Really interesting piece by @nickawde on Romanian playwright Matei Vișniec, Moldovan artists confronting their communist past, Western complacency, and the International Days Festival in Suceava https://t.co/InZMJynbpU
@LannieStabile Each year beauty and terror happens, but for my 33 the war in Ukraine started. I can’t feel alive since then… Is the theory that afer 30s we’re more prone to be negatively biased?
If your soul aches for something truly beautiful, watch "The Metamorphosis of Birds". I don't know how to categorise it: doc-memoir, personal essay on family history or rather delicate art installation, but Catarina Vasconcelos’ enchanting debut is simply breathtaking.
In this thread, I'll tell you about some of the Ukrainian modernist writers from the Ukrainian 20s.
You definitely know about the "Roaring 20s" and "Génération Perdue». The Ukrainian modernism is called the "Executed Renaissance".
@AskDrBurt @PaulStephenn @IAPonomarenko Oh, that’s cool! :) I was born on the other side, in Moldova. Sorry for the irrelevant info, my comment was mostly for Paul anyway.
@AskDrBurt @PaulStephenn @IAPonomarenko Transnistria comes from lat: trans (beyond) and Nistria, the river. The history of that region is complex but in short: in 92 there was a short war between Moldovans & Transnistrian separatists. In result, Moscow placed there their so called peacemakers, alas, they never leaved.
Serendipitous encounter tonight. Kirill Serebrennikov on the @DT_Berlin stage (after he has left Russia recently) and a gripping bilingual production – what a moment!
