The impact of Parkinson's on those affected is profound.
This year I have spent more hours in hospitals, visiting and caring for my mother, than I have in museums.
That is why I am raising money for @ParkinsonsUK.

And in today's Festive Reel I sing Silent Night and talk about the Christmas Truce of 1914 that didn't apply in Dover because the Germans dropped a bomb on us instead.

Yesterday's festive reel for Dover Museum.
I sing 'I Saw Three Ships' and tell about the arrival of Augustine's mission to Bertha and Ethelbert of Kent and the spread of Christianity in the Anglo-Saxon Heptarchy.

Well this is load of nonsense. Without any knowledge of the topic you should be able to ask two probing questions: 1. Where does this numerical data come from and how can it be so accurate? 2. Why were the Romans worried before their population had even peaked? #BadAncient

@TraffordLj@channel5_tv Ooh, thanks for the heads up! I'll have to catch that.
Sian's Livia is absolutely captivating. Expert acting to project the darker-than-grey-eminence at the heart of the establishment of the principate. What would Augustus, and the Julio-Claudians, have been without Livia?
@guineapig66 Yeah - I'm hedging at this point.
I'm now a relatively rare poster anyway but stand to lose a lot of professional contacts if I don't have some presence over there.
What happens in the future happens, but I'd rather not lose touch with cool people in the process.
Not leaving here but a lot of people I like to keep in touch with are - so I've made a bluesky - @karlantmercer.bsky.social - follow me over there of you're so inclined.

Study upon study, report upon report & anecdote upon anecdote reveal the class inequality in our cultural sector.
Change is long overdue & needs to start at grass roots all the way up to top institutions - which needs investment, so it won't happen.

@DoverMuseum Whether or not they had little carts for their tails is another matter!
But if they don't, they should!
Oh, and that second kind of fat-tailed sheep with the broader tails?
Yeah they're T H I C C!
@DoverMuseum Of course if Herodotus said it is must be false!
Well, fat-tailed sheep varieties are very real!
They are common in Asia, particularly hot regions as the tail carries the fat leaving the sheep quite lean and resistant to heat-related issues.
