Carbohydrates are a prerequisite to develop obesity. I’ve never met a person who became obese or developed type 2 diabetes without a lifetime of eating a diet very high in refined carbs.
I’m not saying fat doesn’t count, but obesity is largely a hormonal problem, often due to excessive insulin, driven by excessive carbohydrate intake.
Yes, you can gain some weight or fail to lose weight with excessive dietary fat if you were already obese. But, the common denominator for people that I’ve come across has always been excess sugar and/or refined grains.
