PUNXSUTAWNEY PHIL: I see a holy war spreading across the universe like unquenchable fire. Fanatical legions worshipping at the shrine of my father’s skull. A WAR IN MY NAME!!
PENNSYLVANIANS: SPRING! SPRING! SPRING!
The murder of Brianna Ghey, a talented 16-year old trans girl, was beyond shocking.
In the sentencing, the judge confirmed the deadly role of transphobia.
I'm so delighted to talk to the brilliant @jessothomson, who covered this harrowing case 👇

Will have to check but maybe first time that transphobia was named explicitly as a cause in the murder of Brianna Ghey. Good piece by @zoesqwilliams on the rise of organised transphobia, again perhaps the first acknowledgement in mainstream media. Is the tide turning?
Both the judge and the CPS concluded that anti-trans hatred partly explains Brianna Ghey's hideous murder.
So much of Britain's media and political elite have dehumanised trans people.
They should reflect on the fact that trans people are humans, and words have consequences.
medical experts push back against Alberta’s proposed anti-trans policies. The province’s medical professionals rely on established standards of care and extensive guidelines set up by leading organizations, despite the Premier’s characterization of the current landscape. These include guidance from the Canadian Paediatric Society and endocrine societies, and the Standards of Care for the Health of Transgender and Gender Diverse People, Version 8, a 258-page document viewed as a global gold standard by health care providers working with this population.

I feel uncomfortable tweeting about Brianna today, even though I’ve got a lot to say. So I’ll step back. Just don’t forget: It’s only a few wks ago that Kemi Badenoch issued ‘guidance’ saying trans kids should not be protected - or even allowed to exist - in UK schools.
Poverty is not just a financial issue. It also has psychological and physical impacts on people. Those impacts have to be *actively rewired* through therapy (somatic therapy primarily) so people who went through poverty can even understand the feeling of safety. Many go their whole lives with the trauma, including rags-to-riches achievers.
Just to add: Poverty is trauma.
To be worried about survival/cognizant of threats to safety and stability every day keeps the nervous system shaken up, it floods the body with cortisol (which is toxic over time).
Poverty gives people CPTSD. And it's passed down to their kids
My new conviction is that the workday should be 5 hours maximum; and the workday should be four days.
Work is meant to be paced to be useful and enjoyable.
Instead, what happens is long periods of nothing with intense period of disordered overwork.

I just cannot even with how special a person he is. I always knew I loved him but oh my God. 😍😭 🏳️⚧️
A transgender organisation has lost its case to have the LGB Alliance stripped of its charitable status.

25 corporations pretending to honor Pride month have donated $13.5 million to anti-LGBTQ+ politicians since January 2022.
Ignore the marketing and follow the money.
My latest and last until late August/Enjoy the summer break; busy fall ahead: Pierre Poilievre is becoming a liability to Conservatives | The Star https://t.co/MOVF89RuYN
The last time we took that disingenuous Conservative 'coalitions are un-Canadian' rubbish seriously we got Stephen Harper - I'm pretty sure (and I *sure hope*) we've learned our lesson because Poilievre is not a cool guy. All we need to do is stay the course!
