Daemon waited at Harrenhal for 13 days, openly challenging Aemond to stop burning the Riverlands and face him.
On the 14th day, Aemond finally arrived on Vhagar with his pregnant lover, Alys Rivers. After a final kiss goodbye, he mounted the ancient dragon and took to the skies.
As the sun set over the God’s Eye, Caraxes crashed into Vhagar. The two dragons locked together in a savage midair battle, tearing at each other with teeth, claws, and dragonfire that lit up the evening sky.
Vhagar ripped through Caraxes’s wing and slashed open his belly, while Caraxes clamped his jaws around Vhagar’s neck. Mortally wounded, both dragons began their fatal plunge toward the lake below.
Then came the moment that became legend.
Daemon unfastened himself from his saddle, leapt from the back of his dying dragon onto Vhagar, and drove the Valyrian steel sword Dark Sister straight through Aemond’s remaining eye.
Moments later, both dragons crashed into the God’s Eye, sending a column of water soaring higher than the towers of Harrenhal. Neither Daemon nor Aemond survived.
It remains one of the most legendary and unforgettable duels in the history of Westeros.
