I am grateful to Rector Petra De Sutter for allowing me to stay at Ghent University. I look forward to continuing to work on the project, “The Future of Liberalism,” for 60% of my working time for the remainder of my one-year postdoc.

I wish to personally thank Ambassador @BillWhiteUSA. It was beyond my imagination that such a person would take an interest in the fate of a postdoc. The Ambassador responded with great support which helped to bring about a just outcome. Thank you, @USAmbToBelgium and @StateDept for defending American values. I am proud of my country.

You were elected in July 2024 promising to cut average household energy bills by £300. Back then the household energy cap was £1,568. In October it will be £1,730. So instead of a £300 cut, a £162 rise. With bigger increases to come next year. Will we ever see that £300 cut? Or has it now gone the way of the promised to build 1.5m new homes between 2024 and 2029? I rather fear so.

When I warned on BBC Any Questions last week that Labour’s Net Zero obsession was putting British jobs at risk, many in the audience did not want to hear it.

Today, we learn that more than 100,000 North Sea oil and gas jobs are projected to disappear by 2050.

Saying no to Net Zero does not make someone a climate-change denier. It means rejecting the absurd idea that protecting the planet requires us to impoverish our own people.

Britain accounts for less than 1% of annual global emissions. Of course we must protect our environment and reduce emissions, but climate change is a global challenge that demands global action.

Sacrificing British jobs, weakening our energy security and importing the energy we still need from overseas is not environmental leadership. It is economic self-harm.

We need a pragmatic approach that balances environmental responsibility with jobs, prosperity and energy security. British workers must never be treated as collateral damage for Labour’s ideology.
