Some future PM of India will enter office with the mindset that he only has 5 years in office and doesn't give a shit about re-election or his party's electability in state elections. India will see its boldest reforms then.

What India has now is someone who wants to win the next general election and every state election till then, and be PM for basically forever. So he will not make any disruptive move and backpedal at the slightest pushback, and who thinks glacial progress is compensated for with "stability," even if at the cost of huge political concessions to pressure groups and the opposition.

This is not a good enough deal for an aspirational Indian who wants to experience prosperity within his lifetime (and not at some distant post-retirement age).

These are the developments of the last few days.

Sam Altman has said OpenAI will not go public in 2026, calling an IPO now an “ill advised moment” given mounting AI safety concerns.

He also said OpenAI would melt all its GPUs if that were what it took to keep humanity alive, while adding that he does not think it will come to that.

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has called on AI companies to deliberately slow the pace of capability gains so safety work can catch up.

Sam Altman says AI leaders including Elon Musk, Dario Amodei, Mark Zuckerberg and Sundar Pichai will eventually meet to discuss slowing down AI.

Altman, Amodei and Musk have already publicly backed pacing frontier development, and Altman has suggested that leading labs may be close to a joint safety agreement.

This is a welcome move. The next one to two years look set to focus on safety measures, sufficient guardrails, and legislation on the use and restriction of AI, so that the technology does not become a threat to humanity.

Looks like this moment is similar to how the world has regulated nuclear weapons.

The trend was seeded on Meta platforms and now is taking over X as well. Tomorrow, we may see an OpenAI model generated "Piyush Goyal promoted investment scam."
