In his opening remarks, the Director General of the Higher Education Council (HEC), Dr Edward Kadozi, said the proposed accreditation model and quality assurance framework are designed to provide guidance, legitimacy, and trust, while safeguarding institutional autonomy.
He noted that the current engagement marks the first phase of validation, adding that the Higher Education Council (HEC) will return to institutions to ensure that standards and benchmarks fairly reflect quality across all stages of accreditation and quality assurance, with stakeholders’ input being essential throughout the process. He further emphasized that this initiative aims to build a respected, trusted, and future-ready higher education system with credible institutions and qualifications that ensure graduates are equipped with skills relevant to both national and international labour markets.
