@mavrck_k I don’t think the ecological impact would’ve been that significant. The proposed route covered the city, from HMT to Dalgate and Dalgate to Hazratbal. It could have reduced traffic, saved time and helped thousands of students and working people.
Developing Jammu Kashmir
Twenty seven new Metro rail lines proposed by the Union Ministry for Housing and Urban Development include Jammu and Srinagar.
Not just Srinagar, Jammu too.
Promised in 2017, used in two General Elections, and after 9 years, the BJP-led Centre has returned the Jammu & Srinagar Metro proposals.
Was the Metro project just an election promise for the people of J&K?

PS : NC-led govt. is throwing the entire Kashmir under the bus. With 42 MLAs in the Assembly, NC govt had both the mandate and the means to fix the unfair RESERVATION system. But they chose manipulation over justice to their people and cowardice over commitment.
55 JKAS & J&K Accounts (Gazetted) appointments, but only 10 are from Kashmir Valley—18%, despite the Valley comprising around 60% of J&K’s population.
This demands scrutiny of representation, fairness and the current recruitment framework. I will raise it in the Assembly. Kashmir’s youth deserve equal opportunity, not token representation.
Out of 55 JKAS and J&K Accounts( Gazetted), officers selected, only 10 are from Kashmir valley.
So against a population ratio of 56%, inhabitants of Kashmir have got 18% of the jobs.
Incidentally appointment orders were given by CM sahib. Ideally he should have kept away.
This is recruitment apartheid. And persecution of the inhabitants of the Kashmir valley. A strategy to disempower and marginalise the inhabitants of Kashmir valley.
I have all along maintained that reservations is a Jammu vs Kashmir issue, rooted in ethnically disempowering the inhabitants of valley.
And this Kashmir region 56% vs 18% recruitment figure will not be changed if the so called file sent by the elected government to union government is approved. At best it will increase to 19%, against 56% population.
I will be raising this issue in the Assembly through appropriate legislative devices.
I wish and hope that we together, across party lines are able to highlight the severity of this issue.
And call a spade a spade. Which would mean saying it explicitly and unambiguously that the present reservation system in place is a methodology to disempower and relegate to the margins, the inhabitants of Kashmir valley.
No doubt Kashmiris endured crushing poverty, oppressive taxation, Begar (forced, unpaid labour), exploitation and political subjugation under the Mughal, Afghan, Sikh and Dogra eras. Their suffering is a painful part of our history.
But to reduce that proud and ancient civilisation to the degrading claim that “an entire neighbourhood used to share one pajama” is not history—it is an insult to the dignity, culture, religious values and self-respect of the Kashmiri people.
Poverty never erased our humanity. Hardship never stripped Kashmiris of their dignity, faith, scholarship, hospitality or rich cultural heritage.
Such a statement does not honour the sacrifices of our ancestors; it humiliates them.
Kashmir’s history deserves truth, dignity and respect, not political rhetoric that turns the suffering of an entire people into a cheap caricature.
