In case you forgot Jane Fonda is a badass, she just got arrested yet again for protesting for climate change. Third time's a charm βπΌβπ½βπΎβπΏ #FridaysForFuture
@xr_cambridge@lhardingwrites I guess I don't see that as incompatable with "beyond politics". I think for me the distinction is "did you know that Shell pollutes" vs "we must ban Shell", or "did you know that meat is carbon huge" vs "we must be vegan". Awareness is good, but a stance brings trouble.
@KasperDisaster@lhardingwrites Yes definitely. We can talk about the 100 companies responsible for 70% of emissions, we can talk about the billions of dollars & decades spent on denial to stop action for profit, we can talk about corruption, about the link between free market "reforms" & emissions. Loads
@lhardingwrites@xr_cambridge Those decisions must be made by a body who are seen as representative & trusted by the population. Otherwise, their decisions will hold no weight.
@lhardingwrites@xr_cambridge Sure, but ignoring extremes - every decarbonisation method we use will have negative consequences for someone. Who are we to decide between them? We're unelected, and have no mandate to make these choices for others.
@KasperDisaster@lhardingwrites Because people on a Citizens' Assembly don't go into that assembly in a political vacuum. They will go in with ideologies & politics and right now is when we must set the narrative that ends in justice. Also, we might not get a CA and our narrative must take that into account too
@xr_cambridge@lhardingwrites I like this, yes. Do you think it is possible for us to do more of this in a way which doesn't alienate, doesn't lecture, doesn't split our movement into factions? I don't feel able I know enough about (politics, economics, anything) to do more than sound alarm.
@KasperDisaster So sorry to hear that. And NHS are stretched so limiting inhalers due to government cost directive (6 a year). Docs keep asking why I need more... I already can't breathe in my neighbourhood. If I stay elsewhere, I don't even need an inhaler!
