#cheshirenovelprizesnippetsLL ✂️✂️✂️ Literary Fiction: Breandan stands on the floating ferry bridge. The sea is inside him, tugging at his bones, turning his stomach like a waterwheel. He looks up at the boat, a white steel whale, its back bursting from the waters like a mountain. Tides of worry rise inside him. He steps forward with the queue. No one speaks. No one looks. ‘The last thing ye wanna be in England is Irish,’ Soupy Campbell said when Breandan had asked his advice. ‘If they wanna know where yer from, tell them Dallas, and say yer Da’s a second cousin of J.R.’ He glugged on his pint and winked. Breandan returned his smile, although he didn’t quite get the joke. ‘But listen.’ The man grasped him by the wrist. ‘If ye hear the three letters - I, R, and A.’ The humour passed from his face. ‘Shift the fuck outta there, fast.’
@AkiSchilz As already said, food, cleaning etc all amazing. If you want to give them a physical object, a digital thermometer! SO handy for wriggly babies, and it will get used constantly for years :)
From 1640 entries, congratulations to our 33 LL writers. For these guys the journey now begins. Please do stick around to follow them on their journey. Thank you to everyone who entered. The talent was off the scale this year.
@bookloverJo I wonder if editors come into schools? In education publishing we absolutely do, but perhaps something trad publishers should think about if they don't already.
@LauraPAuthor 1996 I started pot washing at 14 for £3.25 an hour, I think. Got a bit more for waitressing a year or so later. Then went to River Island for £2.50 an hour! Plonker 😂
