Day1 of ECS. Some great talks from Luke Rendell, Anita Gilles, and Carla Freitas, to name a few... and a new love of sperms whales. #ECS#Whales#StillLoveSeals
Pit-stop at Punta Arenas before heading down to Bahia Jackson in Tierra del Fuego to work with the Southern elephant seals. Excited to work with this great team! #seals#divephysiology#isotopes#biologging
Over 5 years of writing code, collating metadata, processing, QCing, reprocessing, QCing, reprocessing… not to mention the weeks, months, & years of field work by a small army of researchers. I am SO excited that we’re sharing this incredible dataset. 👉 https://t.co/oNVKUntwIf

Carried out a #CSIOfTheSea exam on a young 4.36m male minke whale yesterday near Dungeness, Kent. Marked nutritional loss and evidence of live stranding. Stomachs empty- severe parasitism within the intestinal tract and this may be linked to the poor condition. More work pending.
Privileged to also get the chance to present a poster on our work looking at how we can use marine mammals as sentinels of ecosystem change. With a great team @LuisHuckstadt @strandings_man @CwallWildlife @LaurenBiermann , James Barnett & @StuBearhop #SMM2024#isotopes#seals
Great first day at #SMM2024 . Lots of bycatch mitigation work going on, genetics, and acoustic research. Plus an inspiring opening ceremony and talks from #Jodiedwards and #Chelsmarshall
Really interesting day at @ExeterMarine helping my CSIP colleague James Barnett and CMPT team conduct #CSIOfTheSea marine mammal exams for @JaredKWA and @LuisHuckstadt students. Two young and thin common dolphins- gastric impaction (bones) and other with heavy gastric parasitism.

In all the bad news this was a little ray of sunshine today - Conservation shown to be slowing biodiversity loss. Action sometimes works! #conservation#marine 🌊 https://t.co/XjShuMk1xe
New Paper 📣. Privilege to be a part of this & working with @DaniOrrell. High site fidelity expressed in grouper in contrast to yellow spotted eel, with both expressing similar trophic niche.
New paper! Two big questions. How can two mesopredators that perform similar ecological roles coexist? 🤔And if these two species are so ecologically similar, can they be managed using the same approach? 🌋🐟 https://t.co/3S2Hek4Lq9 🧵 Work with @iBioUWindsor & @AscensionMPA
Dionne Warwick: Do you know the way to San Jose
Me: You take a 7hr night coach to Heathrow, 11hr flight to Phoenix, and a 2hr connection 😴
Plus side: I get to learn how to work with elephant seals for a month with #UCSC very..very..lucky!
